The French bilateral development bank Agence Française de Développement (AFD) promotes economically, socially and environmentally sustainable development via its network of 72 different offices on four continents. In 2014, AFD committed EUR 8.1bn to finance projects in developing countries and in overseas French territories.
In the Lao PDR, AFD notably provides financial and technical support to both state-owned and private companies through non-sovereign concessional loans without the Lao state guarantee. The French Development Agency also supports Lao SMEs and microfinance insititutions through its ARIZ risk-sharing mechanism via its local partner bank, the Banque Franco-lao.
