The 8th Job Fair took place at the Faculty of Engineering (Sokpaluang Campus), on 10th May 2019 in Vientiane. This crucial event, has been jointly organised by the Faculty of Engineering, the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Laos (ECCIL) and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) with the support from their various sponsors.

The main objective of the occasion is to link the communication gap between the academic world and the business community.  Thus, increasing the awareness among the students on where their journey can lead them and which employment possibilities are available in the labour market, while companies communicate are enabled to attract suitable candidates to apply for vacant positions.

This year, about 4,000 visitors were there, some are enrolled at ten different departments within the Faculty; about 1,300 of them will graduate at the end of June, high school students and other visitors. Even though the Job Fair is mainly targeting this year’s graduates, students from other years and institutions were also there – even from Vocational Schools as well as Higher Secondary Schools. This is not only to stimulate them to draw clearer career plans and to get informed about different education and training options, but also to support them in obtaining desperately needed internships.

Besides giving potential employers the opportunity to display their organisation, organisers put a lot of emphasis to offer further attractions, such as tips on writing CVs effectively in order to increase applicants’ chance on the path to the career they pursue. 31 companies and organisations, who have expertise ranging from IT to banking, and even to hydro power took part, offering a large variety of vacant positions. Besides the interaction with students, they got in touch with academic staff of the Faculty to exchange ideas on how to improve the study courses according to the demand of the economy.
