Prudential Laos Signs Agreement to Support Chevening Scholarship

Our Silver Sponsor Prudential Life Assurance (Lao) Company Limited (“Prudential Laos”) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (“FCDO”) signed an agreement to financially support the UK government’s Chevening Scholarships Program this year (2021/2022). This program offers opportunities for Lao students who are aspiring to become future leaders to study in the UK and uplift their academic path and professional career.

The agreement was signed by Veejay Madhavan, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Laos and H.E. John Pearson, British Ambassador to Laos.

The Prudential Chevening Scholarship for 2021 was awarded to Ms. Sommay Heuankeomany, who will pursue her Master’s Degree in Money, Banking, and Central Banking at University of Buckingham. Her dream is to establish a high-quality research centre for monetary policy and financial markets and become a full time professor at the Banking Institute which is under the Bank of Laos. The Banking Institute offers tertiary education in business, finance, and banking.

Veejay said: “Education is a cornerstone of any society, so we are proud to support the Chevening Program to provide more academic opportunities for the people of Laos. Prudential’s purpose is to help people get the most out of life. We are pleased to help  engage and empower young professionals to pursue quality education and become experts in their chosen fields.”

“Chevening is the British Government’s flagship scholarships program. In Laos, it has supported a range of people in recent years, including many in key decision making and influential positions. I am delighted that Prudential, as a leading British company in Laos,  has decided to continue its very generous support.  I am sure that Ms Sommay will be a credit to both the scholarship program, and Laos” said John Pearson.
