LAO Business Insights

The Lao government aims to create a modern, comprehensive and efficient transport network to improve trade.

By connecting the Laos-China Railway (LCR) to regional and international transport such as airport, railway, road and port to make it fast, safe, and reduce cost for transportation. Also, there has been a good progress in the past few years for generating high revenues from 55.68 billion kip in 2021 to 28.02 billion kip in early 2023 from dry ports in Vientiane, Savannakhet and Champasak.

Therefore, Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is in the process of establishing more dry ports in six provinces such as Nateuy dry port in Luangnamtha, Huayxai in Bokeo, Luangprabang, Thakhek in Khammouan, Lak 20 km in Bolikhamxay, and Xay district in Oudomxay to further improve connectivity and enhance more trade.
