Responsible Business Hub

Advocacy

The European Chamber and Commerce and Industry in Laos acknowledges the pivotal role that businesses play in fostering a sustainable and responsible economic future. As part of our Advocacy initiatives, the Responsible Business Hub (RBH) aims to create a platform to promote sustainability, ethical business conduct, and green growth within Laos.

The Responsible Business Hub seeks to be a resource center for companies looking for guidance, best practices, and networking opportunities to adopt more sustainable and responsible business practices. Our mission is to foster dialogue within the business ecosystem, promoting a balance between profitability, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility.

We strive to:

  • Promote the adoption of sustainable business models and best practices.

  • Support businesses in navigating EU sustainability policies and regulatory frameworks.

  • Encourage corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that positively impact local communities.

  • Facilitate networking and strategic partnerships between businesses in Laos and Europe.

Commitment to the European Green Deal

The European Chamber and Commerce and Industry in Laos is committed to aligning its sustainability initiatives with the European Green Deal, equipping businesses in Laos with the necessary knowledge and tools to comply with EU sustainability regulations.

Through active collaboration with the European Union Delegation to Laos, Lao authorities, civil society, and the private sector, we strive to bridge the gap between local enterprises and global sustainability objectives, fostering a more resilient and environmentally responsible economy.

Our Initiatives

Recognizing Responsible Business Leadership

A key initiative under the Responsible Business Hub is the Responsible Business Awards (RBA), which celebrates companies demonstrating excellence in corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and ethical business practices. These awards set a benchmark for industry best practices, inspiring businesses across Laos to integrate responsible and sustainable strategies into their operations.

Navigating the EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Value Chains

European Chamber and Commerce and Industry in Laos is actively supporting the European Union in raising awareness and facilitating discussions on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its implications for businesses operating in Laos. Through high-level workshops, we work to:

  • Raise awareness and enhance the understanding on the EUDR, its objectives and impacts among key stakeholders in northern Laos.

  • Provide a platform for mutual exchange and stakeholder dialogue on the EUDR.

  • Discuss and collect concerns, challenges, opportunities and recommendations for support needed among relevant stakeholders overall and by key commodities (cattle, coffee, rubber and wood).

These discussions focus on key commodity sectors such as cattle, coffee, rubber, and wood, ensuring that Lao businesses are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to adapt to new regulatory frameworks while maintaining sustainable and competitive supply chains.

Achieving More Together

European Chamber and Commerce and Industry in Laos, in partnership with GIZ, is committed to promote responsible investment and innovation in Laos by disseminating knowledge on funding opportunities through the develoPPP programme. This initiative supports companies in Laos dedicated to integrating sustainable production methods by introducing or expanding relevant environmental and social standards.
