The Mines Advisory Group (MAG)
MAG is a humanitarian organisation that has been working in Laos since 1994 to address the ongoing impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO), helping communities in affected areas reclaim and use land that has remained contaminated since the war.
MAG's work in Laos includes:
• Clearing UXO from land used by communities
• Providing risk education to help students and community members understand and avoid UXO risks
• Responding to reports of unexploded items through community reporting hotlines
The impact of this work is significant. In 2025, MAG cleared and made safe 10,471,115 square metres of land, destroyed 6,301 items of UXO, and directly benefited 71,408 people. MAG also provided risk education to 8,083 students and community members.
By removing UXO contamination, MAG helps open up opportunities for agriculture, livelihoods, infrastructure, and local development, while reducing risks for people living and working in affected areas.
