ECCIL in cooperation with Eurocham Myanmar, Eurocham Cambodia and the European Association for Business and Commerce Thailand (EABC) are organising a seminar on business opportunities in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar markets on 17th September 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. This joint event is hosted by Luther and DFDL.

The 3 Eurocham will give a presentation on the business climate in their respective countries, with tangible advice on how to successfully enter the market. Each country presentation will be followed by legal presentations by Luther and DFDL on specific topics:

 

- Investing in Myanmar and the new Wholesale & Retail Regulations

Since its economic and political opening up in 2012, Myanmar has undergone a rapid development and numerous legal reforms. One of the last businesses restricted for foreign investors was import and trading of goods. Following several consultation rounds, the Ministry of Commerce finally issued the new Terms & Conditions for Retail / Wholesale Trading (Notification No. 25/2018), allowing foreign investors to establish 100% foreign owned trading companies in Myanmar.

The presentation will give a general overview of Myanmar's investment regime, with a focus on the changes introduced by the new Companies Law and the requirements for import- and trading businesses.

 

- Laos Investment Outlook and Data and IT Security Standards applicable to Companies in Lao PDR

As the Lao PDR continues to regulate and govern the use of information and communication technology in business, in last 5 years, the Government of the Lao PDR has enacted a slew of technology and data related laws. The presentation will cover a general legal and regulatory framework for foreign investment in Laos with further elaboration on data and IT Security standards in Lao PDR.

 

- Doing Business in Cambodia: Legal Updates and Trends

The presentations will be followed by Questions & Answers with the representatives of each Eurocham, along with Luther and DFDL.
