The government is collaborating with established private companies to develop a modern registration system and an import-export database that will enhance the management of importers and exporters. The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr Malaythong Kommasith, stated that this initiative aims to address inflation and the weak currency. The flow of foreign currency will be more strictly controlled through the banking system, and efforts will be made to boost domestic production. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce is partnering with the National Enterprise Database of the Enterprise Registration and Management Department to improve the automatic tax notification system of the Tax Department. This will streamline and modernize the management of import and export businesses and facilitate information sharing among state agencies. An online importer-exporter registration system has been developed, and the next step is to reinforce import and export regulations through the automatic tax notification system. Companies that are not registered or listed in the database will not be able to notify customs officials about imported goods. In the future, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce plans to connect its information system with the Capital Flow Management System being developed by the Bank of the Lao PDR. Until then, the ministry will continue to provide information about registered importers and exporters through a coordinated group via WhatsApp and Google Drive. Since making registration mandatory, 946 companies have registered, with 650 verified and registered. To strengthen regulation further, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Finance and other agencies in managing and issuing import and export licenses for each product. They will also involve provincial and local government levels and industry and commerce departments in implementing and monitoring the new regulations.
